  • Photo Challenge: Black and White

This week we chose black and white photography. The interesting part about this challenge was that as digital photographers, especially as many of us have very little background in film, B&W often is seen as a setting to be done in post. I wanted to look at this in two ways, what is the best way to take a photo with the intention of converting it and what is the best method of conversion to get great results. I am happy with some of these, and I’m sure I will be practicing this more in the future.

Both train ones are super cool.

There’s a lot of artifacts on the street photo but I like the idea of a night shot for a B&W image.

The photo of the backyard is crisp and clear but it looks a little tilted to me. At least the deck in the center isn’t square but could be an optical illusion.

For the photo of the man and woman, the woman’s arm looks enormous due to the lack of contrast between her arm and the couch. Needs more contrast in that area for an already high contrast image.

I don’t like the blown out part on the cat’s neck, but otherwise the high key works.
